Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) was established on 19 November 1983. It is located in Sheikhpura, Patna . The establishment led to a great landmark in the history of Bihar medical education. It is an autonomous institution which is based on the pattern of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The project for the establishment of the college was passed in 4 phase within six year. The institute was established with the aim to provide health and medical care of highest standard. The university is named after the Former Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi. Certain survey said that many people from were suffering from Heart Diseases, Neurological problems, Cancer, Renal Dialysis, Ophthalmic problems etc. so there was an urgent need of establishment of good hospital in the state. Therefore Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) was established with the aim to provide world class medical facilities to the people. The institute provides education in medical science as well as it promotes research work in health and medicinal programs.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences has many facilities including Patient Care, OPD Schedule, Specialty Clinics, Laboratory Services, Emergency Services, and Child Health Care etc.

The admission in the college is based on all India rank in AIPMT. The institute holds high reputation at national level and receiving students from all over India.

The institute is well equipped with latest medical equipments. The fund is provided by the government to promote the research work. The institute offers post graduates degree in Gastroentrology, Nephrology, Neuro Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, Cardiology, Reproductive Biology, Endocrionology, Anaesthiology, Community Medicine, Pulmonology, Gastro Intenstile Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Urology and General Surgery.

The institute was a great gift to the people of Bihar from the central government and the institute has also achieved its goals which was set up after its establishment.
