Magadh University, Bodhgaya

Magadh University was founded on 01 March, 1962. Dr sarvapalli RadhaKrishnan, the former President of India laid the Foundation of the University. Dr. K.K Dutta, one of the most famous Historian of India at that time was the Founder Vice- Chancellor of the University. Magadh University is considered to be the large University of Bihar spread in the area of 460 Acres of Land. The University is located near Bodh Gaya receiving the spiritual breeze of Bodhi Tree where Lord Buddha got enlightment.

At present Magadh University has 24 Post Graduate Departments, 44 Constituent Colleges and 85 affiliated colleges. A total of 2 thousand teaching staff are working in different departments and colleges of the University. Every year approximately 2 lakh students appear in different graduate as well as post graduate programs of University. The university’s jurisdiction extends over the following districts of Gaya, Jehanabad, Patna, Nalanda, Nawada and Aurangabad. The University provides post-graduate courses in of Humanities, Science, Commerce, and Management in almost 29 subjects. The post-graduate courses in Science are M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, zoology, Mathematics, Geography and Electronics. In Social Sciences & Commerce are M.A. in Political Science, History, Psychology, L.S.W, Economics, A.I.&A.S, Home Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Buddhist Studies. In Humanities are M.A. in Philosophy, Sanskrit, Persian, English, Hindi, Urdu, Pali, Maithili, Bangla, Prakrit and Journalism. The vocational education offered in the University are 4 year degree courses in Hotel, Hospitality & Tourism Management, 1 ½ year craft courses in Food Production, Bakery and Confectionery, Food and Beverage services, Front Office and House-keeping and Specialized courses for defense, Railways, airlines etc.

Institute of Physiotherapy is opened in the University which provides Degree in Physiotherapy in nine semesters. A department of the university also provides diploma courses in many European and Asian languages like French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Tibetan and Singhalese. The University also provides distance education courses. Some of the constituent colleges of the University are A.M. College, Gaya, A.N.S College, Nabinagar, A.N. College, Patna, Daudnagar College, Daudnagar, Nalanda Mahila College, Biharsarif, R.L. S. Y College, Aurangabad and many more. The affiliated colleges are mostly located in Gaya, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Nawadah, Nalanda and Patna. The university is like a treasure to Bihar and government should take every step for its upliftment of the University.
