Ranchi University

Ranchi University came into existence on the 12th of July, 1960. The University was established because of the increasing demand of quality education in Ranchi. The jurisdiction of the University prevails in five districts of Jharkhand mainly Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. The University is UGC recognized. The University was mainly established because for the upliftment of the scheduled tribes and scheduled castes. Special attention and extra coaching are also provided to scheduled tribes and scheduled castes.

Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani laid the foundation of the new university campus on November 15, 2002 when the Jharkhand celebrated its second foundation day. The new campus, spread over 729acres and equipped with latest facilities. Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh, originated from Ranchi University in the year 1992. Ranchi University again in the year was divided in the year 2009 into Kolhan University, Chaibasa and Nilambar Pitambar University, Medininagar. The area of the University was halved after the division.

The University has not only progressed in academics but also in extracurricular activities like sports and others. The University has shown its presence at all India level in cricket, hockey, football, and athletics. Cultural activities are part of the University.

The administrative members of the University are Dean of Commerce Dr.Tulsi Modi, Dean of Education Smt.Aprajita Jha, Dean of Engineering Dr.S.K.Sinha, Dean of Law Mr.Raj kumar Walia, Dean of Humanities Dr.Rita Shukla and others. The courses of science are Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Geology, C hemistry, Botany. In Social Science are Political science, Psychology, Philosophy, Jyotirvigyan, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics , Geography, History and Home science.

College, Dhurwa, Ranchi, K.C. Bhagat College, Bero, Ranchi, Mandar college, Mandar, Ranchi, Birsa College, Khunti, Ranchi, P.P.K. College, Bundu, Ranchi, B.S. College, Lohardaga, K.O. College, Gumla , B.N.J. College, Sisai, Gumla and Simdega College, Simdega.

The University has helped a lot in progress of scheduled tribes and scheduled castes of Jharkhand. It was a gift to the local people.
